Finance and Economic Cluster Coordinator with the rank of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Information and Communication Technology Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael urged Japanese companies to invest in the country’s ICT industry.
The Minister, who was in Hiroshima, Japan, attending the 13th International Telecommunication Symposium, urged Japanese tech companies to increase their presence in Ethiopia.
Speaking at the symposium, Debretsion said that the ICT sector has been contributing to Ethiopia’s rapid and sustainable economic growth over the past years, according to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He briefed the meeting about the government’s efforts regarding the expansion of ICT infrastructures and how it is using it for the development.
The Minister also met with high level government officials and leaders of huge companies that provide IT services and products, such as NEC Corporation and Toshiba Corporation, among others.
Debretsion briefed the companies about the conducive investment atmosphere in Ethiopia and the development of IT parks, which will help to boost the sector.
He added that Japanese companies would be beneficial if they invest in the manufacturing industries, energy development and telecommunication sectors.
