About Yale Global Enterprise (YGE) - Ethiopia

The Yale Global Health Leadership Institute (GHLI) partners with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) to strengthen leadership and quality of care across Ethiopian hospitals and the primary health care system.

Through the Ethiopian Hospital Management Initiative (EHMI), GHLI collaborates with the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the FMOH to strengthen hospital management across the country. During the past 10 years, EHMI management mentors have worked within public hospitals to develop tools and processes for improved patient care.  This includes the creation of the national Ethiopian Hospital Reform Implementation Guideline – the foundation of hospital evaluation and reform in the country. Through EHMI, Yale designed and implemented the first Master’s of Hospital and Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree program in Africa. Since the MHA launch in 2008, more than 120 professionals among four universities have been trained, resulting in significant hospital improvements, including reduced delays in outpatient care, decreased rates of post-surgical infection, and increased adherence to infection prevention standards.
