About Young Women Christian Association in Ethiopia

The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA in Ethiopia), is a membership movement affiliated to the World YWCA movement, where women leading social and economic change in over 120 countries. YWCA in Ethiopia was revitalized and licensed as resident nonprofit, nongovernmental organization in 2000. Through its several engagements, YWCA in Ethiopia strives for the socio economic empowerment and leadership of women and girls.

The young women‘s Christian association of Ethiopia (YWCA) is a membership movement.  It strives to create social and economic empowerment of women and girls in order to attain better life regardless of their ethnic and religious backgrounds.

*  Our Values

YWCA in Ethiopia embraces and respects the World YWCA’s values and principles which are: history and foundation in the Christian faith, worldwide solidarity as women’s volunteer membership movement, diversity, inclusiveness, tolerance and mutual respect, integrity and responsible accountability.

*  Thematic areas of intervention

YWCA seeks to improve the status of women and girls through its three tematic focus areas of;

 1. Improvment of Sexual Reproductive Health, including HIV/AIDS prevention and Girls  Education.
2. Social and economic empowerment of women and girls.
3. Youth Leadership Development programs.
