About Institute of International Education
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is among the world’s largest and most experienced international exchange organizations, dedicated to increasing the capacity of people to think and work on a global and intercultural basis. Founded in 1919 as an independent, nonprofit organization, IIE is committed to delivering program excellence to a diverse range of participants, sponsors and donors.
For more than 90 years, IIE has promoted educational exchange around the world. The Institute currently implements more than 200 programs benefiting over 30,000 men and women from 185 nations. Foremost among these programs is the world-renowned Fulbright Program.  With IIE’s global headquarters in New York City, IIE has 31 international offices, affiliates and representatives around the world. The Institute employs a staff of over 630 worldwide. 
IIE has had a strong presence in Sub‐Saharan Africa for over 30 years and in 2008, opened an office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Working closely with businesses, governments, and non‐governmental organizations in Sub‐Saharan Africa, the Institute focuses on leadership and organizational development, scholarship management, and higher education services. IIE’s Regional office located in Ethiopia works with diverse constituencies to develop leadership and organizational development programs that respond to specific professional and institutional development needs. In addition, IIE/Sub‐Saharan Africa focuses on scholarship management, expanding access to higher education (especially for women in the region), supporting the development of higher education institutions and promoting international partnerships between U.S. and African colleges and universities.
