About Buusaa Gonofaa Microfinance S.C (MFI)

Buusaa Gonofa Micro Finance Institution SC (BG) is a regulated microfinance institution (MFI) that provides financial services to low-income entrepreneurs in rural areas, landless young people and smallholder farmers. It does so via a vast network of branches, rural service outlets and points of sale in the province of Oromia. Buusaa Gonofaa currently has a portfolio with more than 100,000 clients (2018).

BG was founded in 1999 by a local NGO named Hundee, which implements community-based development projects in Oromia aimed at giving low-income people access to high-quality financial services. By creating incentives and new economic opportunities, BG wants to encourage young people to remain in and develop their own communities rather than migrating to urban areas in search for work.

In 2008 BG won the 2nd European Microfinance Award ‘Socially Responsible Finance.’ Buusaa Gonofaa is an active member of the Association of Ethiopian Microfinance Institutions (AEMFI) and of the Microfinance African Institutions Network (MAIN).
