Course Description
The Thinking Maps model is made up of a tool kit of eight visual tools that are used together to create simple to complex ideas, plans, products and processes. The Thinking Maps model was developed by Dr. David Hyerle and is used across fields of study, jobs, and careers. So, just what is “thinking”? Thinking is about looking for, seeing and creating patterns of information and then making them practical. Unfortunately, most people have only a few tools for thinking. They see a problem and they have one solution or tool. It would be like a carpenter who only had a hammer so saw every problem as one of hammering away at a solution! Of course, thinking is more interesting, complex, powerful, and varied than just “thinking” harder or in one way. There is a range of fundamental actions of thinking that we all use every day: describing, comparing, grouping ideas, sequencing, and seeing the causes and effect of actions.
