European Cooperative for Rural Development (EUCORD) is recruiting Accountant for Barley Value Chain development project co-funded by Heineken International N.V. and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in partnership with Heineken Brewery S.C- Ethiopia. The responsibilities, duties and qualification required for this position are described in below. EUCORD is a Brussels based non-profit organization. Its mission is to help people living in poverty in developing countries to improve their wellbeing. It aims to achieve this by engaging the private sector in delivering services to rural communities so as to ensure healthy families and sustainable livelihoods. EUCORD implements in Ethiopia CREATE project focuses on malt barley value chain development project since 2014.
Position Summary
Accountant will be responsible for providing effective financial support to the Ethiopia component of the CREATE Project ensuring compliance with donors’ (Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heineken Brewery S.C.) and European Cooperative for Rural Development’s (EUCORD) policies and procedures. Accountant basically has to work of accounting and reports to immediate supervisor. He/ She will involved in daily operations of the finance department, of monthly accounts, assists in account payments, receivables, and preparation of monthly financial statements, maintain balance sheets, subsidiary ledgers and assisting on running financial projects. He or she basically has to do the work related to general accounting such as preparing journal entries, monthly closing and accounting analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities
Do all the basic works of an accountant such as reconciliation of balance sheets accounts, petty cash payments, payroll related payables, and deferring of income accounts.
Do the compilation entry, and posting monthly adjusting journal entries.
Maintain internal financial controls and associated procedures.
Review accounts payable invoices for proper coding and approval.
Prepare timely and accurate financial reports in line with narrative reports that meet the requirements of the donor and Ethiopian Government.
Prepare quarterly consolidated financial reports, and ad hoc financial reports, as required by the Project Managers and/or HQ finance team.
To ensure that project cash flows (income, expenditure and fund transfers) are managed in a timely and accurate manner
Support project managers with project narratives in relation to expenditure and financial risks
Provide ongoing financial risk analysis and recommendations of risk management strategies
Facilitate internal and external audit processes in relation to the project and ensure audit requirements are monitored throughout the project
Work with the project manager to ensure that audit recommendations are fulfilled
Support HQ finance team to ensure archiving of the project documentation for audit at all levels of the project
To support country programmes to fulfill the requirements for internal and external audit
Work closely with the HQ finance team to monitor the budget utilization and communicate any issues upwards from partners and country programmes
Undertake tasks as may assigned by immediate supervisor
Job Requirement
The candidate should have at least BA in Accounting and five years of experience in related position.
Excellent financial management and administration skills
Attention power for the detailed work and accuracy in accounting procedures.
Experience of leading on financial aspects of multi-country donor contract management and providing advice on complex financial management
Experience developing financial operational systems and schedules
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English
Proven ability to priorities in a demanding environment, multiple accountabilities, and to tight deadlines
Strong analytical, financial reporting, and presentation skills with the ability to present complex issues clearly and concisely
Experienced in using accounting software appropriate for a large international organization
