Main Purpose:
Responsible for the correct implementation and monitoring of the overall Water Hygiene and Sanitation content of programs in mission projects outside of Gambella region (ie: Amhara, Tigray, SRS, Addis and any new projects). This according to universal health standards and MSF procedures, in order to ensure protection to the public health
Duties & Responsibilities
• Recommend in collaboration with the Coordination Team (deputy/Medical Coordinator and Logistics Coordinator), Watsan Advisor and Project Coordinators the WHS strategies and activities for the MSF projects (as listed) ensuring formal requirements of compliance, in order to prioritize objectives and plan activities accordingly.
• Analyzing Water Hygiene and Sanitation related risks of the country and presenting for CMT through Medco for early preparedness, Lobby and ensuring the capacity to respond.
• Supervise and coach the project watsan teams to ensure that all MSF projects under your responsibility are meeting their objectives.
• Assure a global overview of watsan needs in all project locations and engage to support the project Watsan teams to identify priority areas of intervention.
• In collaboration with project watsan and medical teams, conduct assessments identifying WHS needs and feeds back to Project Coordinators on findings and appropriate responses.
• Supports project watsan teams and participates in the elaboration of WHS emergency strategies and response plans including resources in collaboration with the medical and logistical teams.
• Contributes to the development of project proposals and/or work plans, when WHS is integrated in medical interventions.
• Plan and organize, in collaboration with project watsan teams and with the logistics and medical coordinators, the purchasing of required materials and equipment, in order to ensure appropriate technical specifications, stock management and timely deliveries.
• Support project watsan teams in the implementation of WHS reporting systems, project standards and indicators (both qualitative and financial) in order to ensure the expected quality, terms and costs and to early detect/report potential deviations and propose solutions, in collaboration with the Medical, Logistical and the Financial Coordinators.
• Supervise and advise the execution of the WHS activities in project areas in order to ensure quality indicators, time schedule and budget, prevent deviations and propose immediate technical adjustments when necessary in close coordination with the CMT and Field Teams.
• Plan, coach and supervise, in close coordination with the HR department the associated processes (recruitment, training, evaluation, development and communication) in order to ensure both the number and the skill of the team is appropriate.
• In collaboration with PCs and MTLs , responsible for wash staff evaluations.
• Actively participate in team project level meetings as possible, regional level meetings and/or camp level meetings.
• Write WHS part of SitRep, monthly WHS reports, and collaborates with other members of CMT for quarterly, donor or local authorities reports.
• In collaboration with the Medical and Logistics Team, contribute to the annual WHS planning and report its activities in order to transparently inform the donor communities and authorities.
Requirements | |
Education | • Education in Civil Engineering, Water and Sanitation, Land and Water Management (preferably international), or similar |
Experience | • Significant work experience (at least 2 years) in water and sanitation, preferably in a low to middle income country and preferable outside the country of origin • Experience in managing, supervising and training others • Experience on using epidemiological data interpretation |
Languages | • Fluent in both English and Amharic essential |
