Organization and Overall Purpose:
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) was launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. GAIN is a global, Swiss-based foundation that mobilises public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition. Our programs in Africa and Asia enable better diets via nutritional products, such as fortified staples foods, including cooking oil and flour, and condiments like salt and soy sauce. We also support improved maternal and infant health by promoting breastfeeding and specialised products for infants over six months and young children. In addition, we partner with local businesses to improve the quality of food along agricultural value chains. By building alliances that deliver impact at scale, we believe malnutrition can be eliminated within our lifetimes.
GAIN fights malnutrition in Ethiopia through innovative and sustainable models that increase access to affordable nutritious foods among communities vulnerable to malnutrition.
Food fortification is recognized as one of the key interventions in the Ethiopia National Nutrition Programme (NNP) and is a cost-effective strategy to control and prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
The National Steering Committee (NSC) for Food Fortification in Ethiopia is a multi-sectorial task group established under the auspices of the NNP and spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Industry (FMoI) to establish food fortification as a strategic intervention to lower the burden of vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Membership includes key government, private sector, and international stakeholders.
GAIN is looking for a Senior Project Manager who will support and coordinate with the National Steering Committee (NSC) and other stakeholders to establish a national programme for the fortification of wheat flour and edible oil and to provide technical assistance on quality control systems for universal salt iodization.
The Senior Project Manager will work closely with the Ethiopian Government, partners and other civil society organizations to achieve impact through scalable models of complementary food production. This includes preparation of robust plans including action plans, developing and revising budgets, develop contracts and following up with implementing partners. Moreover, he/she will be working with a technical working group under the NNP umbrella and the government to facilitate a supportive stakeholder and policy environment. He/she will also be responsible for the coordination of GAIN’s work with development partners.
