Build, lead and represent the Natural Resource Management (NRM) team;
Develop and implement a holistic context appropriate integrated view on agro-pastoral land conservation, rehabilitation, development and management;
Working under the supervision of the international project manager, in coordination with the Project Coordinator and in cooperation with government services, NGOs and local communities, the NRM expert will be responsible for the identification, development, adaptation and implementation of participatory approaches and technologies in the field of land use planning, NRM and improved production technologies (pastoral and agricultural);
Lead implementing pilot projects measures based on these participatory approaches;
Give technical advice on matters of sustainable NRM and technical innovations for pastoral and agro-pastoral production;
Assuring that pastoralists and pastoral interests are integrated and particularly negative impacts on pastoralism are avoided;
Assuring that gender equity in design, implementation and with regard to impacts of measures are taken;
Supporting knowledge management;
Contributing to internal and external communication with results of his/her field of intervention.
Tasks
Contribute to operational and annual planning, subject specific monitoring;
Participate regularly in team meetings for planning and reviewing;
Assure smooth cooperation with SDR-projects, Somali BoFED, Somali Agricultural Bureau, Somali Livestock and Pastoral Development Bureau and other stakeholders from administration and development partners at all levels;
Carry out responsibilities in line with the GIZ management principles;
Contribute to internal and external communication regarding his/her field of intervention;
Keep himself/herself informed and updated with regard to all knowledge and technology in the field of expertise, responsibilities and activities;
Fulfil any other necessary tasks if required.
Special Tasks:
Advise on technical, organisational and procedural matters of pilot measures in the field of NRM (including rangeland management and pastoralism), land use and watershed development planning, soil and water conservation (SWC), conservation farming, small-scale irrigation etc;
Design land use and watershed management and development plans and maps;
Collaborate with scientific advisors and external consultants on above mentioned matters and guide the implementation of recommendations;
Document and capitalize on measures applied and outcomes and impacts;
Contribute to regional and federal policy dialogue on natural resources management and soil and water conservation measures;
Collaborate with team member responsible for capacity development measures and / or consultant for devising the specific training needs assessments, putting emphasize especially on a gender-based didactical approach;
Support the development of training contents and materials based on experiences of participatory approaches and project measures

Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum a Master’s Degree in Natural Resource Management, Rangeland Management, Soil and Water Conservation, land use planning, geography or comparable;
Minimum of 5 years of practical advisory experiences on watershed management measures, working with pastoral and agro-pastoral communities, preferably in Somali region;
