KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis (TB). KNCV is the lead partner in Challenge TB, the new USAID-funded 5-year global program. We lead an international consortium comprising eight partner organizations in addition to KNCV: ATS, FHI 360, IRD, JATA, MSH, PATH, The Union, and WHO. In Ethiopia, Challenge TB is being implemented by KNCV as a lead and MSH and WHO as a collaborating partner. The strategic objectives of Challenge TB are to improve access to patient care, to prevent transmission and disease progression, and to strengthen TB platforms.

Purpose of the position
The regional TB laboratory advisor supports the urban TB program to ensure laboratory supervisory and monitoring systems, training, commodity and equipment management, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are appropriately introduced, strengthened, and sustained. S/he provides technical support to the laboratories in health facilities in the region. S/he assists reference laboratory and regional health bureaus to strengthen the quality of smear microscopy, including LED FM, External Quality Assessment (EQA) and Q/A systems for sputum microscopy. S/he contributes to improved laboratory services based on EQA findings, establishes, and/or reinforces innovative protocols for transfer of sputum samples for MDR-TB suspects.
Who are we looking for ?
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science plus a higher qualification in a relevant study Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a similar position. Experience working with partners working with USAID supported projects is an added advantage. Knowledge of the role of the laboratory in TB prevention Knowledge of and experience in laboratory equipment and commodity management, including new TB diagnostic technologies. Familiarity with and experience in implementing local and national laboratory quality assessment, quality assurance and accreditation systems, including the ISO accreditation standards and accreditation process. Knowledge of and experience in laboratory capacity building, monitoring and supervision. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Good interpersonal skills, analytical and teamplayer.
