Project Description:
Land O’Lakes International Development is currently seeking an Agribusiness Specialist for USAID-funded Growth through Nutrition activity in Ethiopia. The project will provide ongoing assistance to the Government of Ethiopia (GOE) to strengthen the institutional and policy environment, develop its human resources for nutrition sensitive agriculture and implement strategies that address poverty and food security and social and behavioral barriers to optimal nutrition.
Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities:
The Agribusiness Specialist will be responsible with coordinating amongst all Land O’Lakes staff, and with the prime, to ensure a private sector component and approach to “farming as a business” is integrated into livestock, horticulture and economic strengthening activities. This position will have a specific focus on strengthened government systems and private sector linkages, including preparing different business models for village saving and lending group and model farmers, development of commercial hatcheries and out-growers and agricultural input suppliers, and provision of business development services for model farmers, FTCs and schools. The Agribusiness Specialist will also work with the Livelihood Management Specialist to support the development of new income-generating activities among village savings and loan participants.
