ChildFund International is seeking qualified candidates for a USAID-funded regional Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) project in Ethiopia. The improved wellbeing and health outcomes for OVC project in Ethiopia will improve health and social wellbeing outcomes for children affected by HIV and AIDS by building the capacity of households to provide for children under their care and strengthen health, education, and livelihood and protection interventions at district and community levels. Client focused and family-centered economic strengthening approaches that bolster the parents and caregivers at the household level are considered fundamental to a quality project. Households are comprised of people who are in some way affiliated, i.e., individuals who share common space for living, cooking, and caring for children. Supporting vulnerable households and by definition, caregivers, can assure continuity of care and support for vulnerable children. Interventions designed to strengthen the capacity of families to achieve child wellbeing outcomes will ensure that families and caregivers have access to basic support and are able to access resources to meet important family needs (e.g., education, health costs, and food).
The Economic Strengthening Technical Director will be responsible for the technical and managerial aspects of project implementation to improve well-being outcomes for children. She/he reports directly to the Chief of Party providing technical direction to project implementation and ensuring the project meets PEPFAR stated goals, expected results and reporting requirements. She/he will take a technical leadership role designing and promoting use of evidence-based activities to diversify and stimulate growth in household income and integrate economic activities with complementary interventions across the project. She/he will be knowledgeable about evidence-based and start-of-the-art household economic strengthening/livelihoods approaches/strategies that address the different levels of household vulnerability. Support to vulnerable children and households can include promotion of cash transfers, household economic and food security and education subsidies.
