In Ethiopia, CRS has a long and rich history of providing emergency relief and development assistance to the people of Ethiopia since 1958. At present, CRS/Ethiopia implements multiple projects through different partner organizations. CRS/Ethiopia has a highly diverse portfolio currently focusing on community-based food and livelihood security through activities in agriculture, health, peacebuilding, WASH, emergency relief, and savings and lending. CRS is active in nearly all regions of Ethiopia: Tigray, Amhara, Oromia, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR), Somali, Benishangul Gumuz, Afar, and Dire Dawa Regions.

Position Title: Livelihood Advisor
Department: CRS Ethiopia Programs
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Employment type: Full time position contingent upon external funding.
Reports To: LRO Chief of Party
The employment will be for a duration of 5 years’ contingent upon funding of the LRO Project.
Purpose of the Position:
CRS Ethiopia is seeking a Livelihood Advisor for the anticipated Livelihoods for Resilience Activity in Oromia, a five-year USAID- funded Feed the Future project. The project will focus on livelihoods and will work in PSNP communities in PSNP communities in Oromia: Zeway Dugda, Arsi Negele, Shala, ATJK, Dodota, Sire, Siraro, and Boset.
Job Summary:
The Livelihood Advisor will provide strategic vision, leadership and technical assistance in improving the overall performance of the livelihood activities in Livelihoods for Resilience Activity project. The incumbent will be responsible for increasing quantity, quality, and competiveness of the income generating activities (IGAs), both off-farm and on-farm, supporting the formation and functioning of Livelihood Groups (LGs), and savings groups. The incumbent will support rural businesses and SMEs to improve their products/services, improve their processes, add new functions, and enter new market channels. In addition, the incumbent will support the program’s efforts to link the rural poor to employment opportunities. The incumbent will have a background in agricultural production, market assessments, rural market linkages, and capacity building in value chains.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
To ensure program’s strategic objectives and results are fully accomplished on time and meet expected technical quality standards, the Livelihood Advisor must:

Provide technical leadership to program activities related to on-farm and off-farm IGAs, and generating employment opportunities.
Supervision:
Required qualifications:
An advanced degree in a relevant field including international development, agriculture, business, marketing, labor market, climate adaptation and/or food security. An advanced degree can be substituted with an additional 3 years of relevant experience.
Minimum 5 years (8 years preferred) demonstrated experience with USG or other similar development projects focused on livelihoods (preferably with experience related to on-farm, off-farm and employment livelihoods), resilience and vulnerable households, preferably Ethiopian with understanding of the Ethiopian context
Spoken and written proficiency in English
Demonstrated ability to work and coordinate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including national and local government, donors, community-based organizations, and the private sector
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Amharic;
Established relationship with and/or substantive knowledge of agribusiness firms in the livestock sector, both within Ethiopia and internationally;
Experience with USAID project implementation;
Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
