Job Summary
The senior gender and SAA Advisor reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Party (DCoP) of the Livelihoods for Resilience project. S/he will serve as technical lead of the project consortium’s efforts towards quality design and implementation of initiatives that ensure women empowerment and gender equality. The position holder will coordinate gender analysis and lead studies to explore diversified livelihoods and employment opportunities particularly for girls, women and female headed households. The advisor leads/conducts standard quality training and produces related guidelines to ensure women empowerment and integration of gender priorities into all technical sectors of the Livelihoods for Resilience. In consultation with the DCoP and CCU technical team, S/he will supervise formative research in implementation areas to identify key issues, social norms and to make recommendations on how to address gender barriers and challenges.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
· Develops gender strategy of the Livelihood for Resilience in collaboration with other project staff;
· Closely follows up and ensure the implementation of strategies;
· Develops gender sensitive indicators to measure results;
· Designs concepts, and inputs into problem identification, causal and problem analysis to support operationalization of gender strategies and plans;
· Establishes staff and key partners induction and ongoing training processes on gender focused program quality;
· Conducts capacity assessment and based on the results, prepares plans and advises consortium on key learning competency and skill requirements in staff and partners pertinent to gender;
· Leads the development and facilitation of trainings for partners and staff development on gender specific initiatives;
· Continuously updates staff and partners on emerging gender issues to enhance and sustain conceptual clarity and awareness of partners and others’ best practices;
· Designs and leads gender surveys, analyze results and write reports;
· Establishes effective linkage and partnership with other Feed the Future programs with particular focus on gender;
· Identifies, establishes and maintains productive relationships with like-minded non-government organizations;
· Provides linkage support to networks with other organizations working on gender issues;
· Disseminates on a regular basis information regarding the consortium’s gender accomplishments among stakeholders, including the government;
· Represent CARE and or Livelihoods for Resilience professionally when delegated/authorized;
QUALIFICATIONS (KNOW HOW)
A) EDUCATION/TRAINING
Required:
· BA (BSc) degree in Social Science, Gender, Rural Development and other related field.
Desired:
· MA/MSc in Gender, Anthropology, Sociology, Developmental Studies and professional training in gender or related fields.
B) EXPERIENCE
7 years of experience working on nutrition, agriculture, food security and livelihoods.
