INTRODUCTION
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 1956 that works in more than 30 countries throughout the world, including Ethiopia. DRC fulfills its mandate by providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations, including refugees, internally displaced people and host communities. Under its mandate, the organization focuses on emergency humanitarian response, rehabilitation and post-conflict recovery.
DRC commenced work in Ethiopia in 2009 and currently provides expertise in shelter, WASH, livelihoods and protection in the Gambella and Somali regions of the country. Activities implemented by DRC are funded by money raised from the Danish public and by project grants from the Danish government and other bilateral and multi-lateral donors.
DRC’s operation in Gambella regional state currently makes up the largest portion of the DRC Ethiopia/Djibouti program’s activities in both programmatic and monetary terms. DRC’s work in Gambella is focused on responding to the refugee influx into that region from South Sudan.
DRC started operating in Dimma in February 2015, implementing a Child Protection in Emergency Program. The Dimma Field office currently has more than 20 staff members and DRC currently implements programmes concerning Child Protection, Gender-Based Violence, Youth, Grinding Mills and Shelter.
POSITION’S OVERALL OBJECTIVES
Working under the direct management of the Protection Team Leader, The GBV Response Officer will be responsible for providing day to day case management and psychosocial support to vulnerable women, including survivors of GBV in Okugu refugee camps. The officer will also oversee the women’s centers activities including psychosocial and recreational activities, information sessions and skills building activities and supervise community refugee social workers to facilitate services for vulnerable women and girls including survivors of GBV.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
To achieve the overall and specific objectives of the position, the GBV Response Officer, will be responsible for all gender-based violence (GBV) response -related activities in the community, including trainings, workshops, awareness-raising activities, and campaigns with government actors, community leaders, women and adolescent groups, and community members the officer will perform the following specific tasks and undertake the responsibilities
