Nuru International Ethiopia is a US-based international NGO working to end extreme poverty in remote rural areas of Ethiopia. Nuru is currently implementing Integrated Rural Community Development Programs in Gamo Gofa zone of SNNPRS. Areas of intervention include Agriculture, Rural Livelihoods Diversification, Healthcare and Education. All four thematic areas work through local Grain Marketing Cooperatives. Currently, Nuru Ethiopia employs approximately 70+ staff at its headquarters in Arba Minch, and project offices in Boreda and Kucha Woredas.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Livestock Expert (LE) will work under the Impact Programs Director (IPD) and work closely with the Nuru Ethiopia Rural Livelihoods Program. They will primarily be responsible for providing technical content support, focused on smallholder feedstock/fodder production and small ruminant (sheep & goat) husbandry in the context of Kucha and Boreda Woredas, in Gamo Gofa Zone of SNNPR.
The LE will work closely with colleagues at other NGOs (ACDI/VOCA, ILRI, and others) as well as key stakeholders (such as the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Agency of Cooperatives, farmers’ unions, traders, wholesalers). The primary focus will be to improve the livelihood diversification and income of smallholder farmers targeted within the Nuru Livelihood Diversification Pilot Project. The first three months will be spent building an integrated curriculum for training smallholder farmers on the establishment and management of improved grass species, and improved small ruminant fattening and husbandry techniques.
The LE may also be responsible for conducting multiple training of trainers (ToTs), supporting farmer trainings by Nuru staff, developing a Pilot Project M&E system and process, and developing value chain linkages for small ruminants.
This position will officially report to the Impact Program Director (IPD) on Nuru Ethiopia’s Senior Leadership Team but will be expected to collaborate closely with the Rural Livelihoods and Cooperative Program Managers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Term of Employment: One year employment with possibility of extension. But initial contract will be for three months.
