The Position: The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) seeks to recruit a Project Administrative Assistant who will be responsible for providing administrative assistance in general project implementation and management and day-to-day liaison with counterparts. The incumbent will be a member of CIMMYT Ethiopia located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Addis Ababa campus.
General: The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) is an autonomous, non-profit making, international scientific organization operating under the aegis of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). More specifically its mission is to encourage, support and undertake activities to improve the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of maize and wheat systems in the interest of the resource poor in developing countries.
Main duties & responsibilities:
The Project Administrative Assistant will provide secretarial and administrative support to the Project and the Project Team, including drafting correspondence, taking of minutes, arranging for the processing of government clearances, making travel arrangements and related tasks. The incumbent carries out her/his functions under the direct supervision of the Project Manager. Specifically, the incumbent will:
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Diploma in Secretarial Science & Office Management, Business Administration or other relevant field of study from a recognized university or college.
Experience:
At least two years of relevant work experience.
Skills and Competencies:
Efficiency with use of (Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) is essential; Familiarity with Accounting and Financial Regulations and Rules will be an asset
Fluency in written and spoken English;
Ability to work independently and to maintain flexibility in working hours;
Ability to interact positively and maintain good relations with ILRI and IFPRI staff as well as partners/collaborators;
Good judgment and a high level of respect for confidentiality.
Effective planning and organisational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate tasks to meet deadlines.
Good interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with counterparts.
Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally.
Duty Station:
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Position level: 1C.
Minimum Base salary: Birr 8,357 per month (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate).

Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, fixed term appointment is for one year. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits.
The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus on the outskirts of Addis Ababa. Dining and sports facilities are located on site.
