Main Purpose |
Carry out laboratory activities, in accordance with his/her instructions and MSF protocols, security measures and hygiene standards, in order to help obtaining lab results that will help to determine patient’s treatment.
Accountabilities |
· Manage all MSF laboratory activities in MSF lab, by insuring the provision of a high quality service, through the use of acceptable MSF quality control protocols.
· According to medical prescription, prepare and perform clinical exams/tests with appropriate techniques and following MSF protocols and procedures. This function includes, among others:
- Taking blood samples.
- Centrifuge samples.
- Use of Rapid diagnostic Tests
- Perform laboratory exams (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology or parasitological, according to context of the mission).
· Ensure proper reporting and registration of the sample results in order to keep a written track of activity and give information to the relevant persons, ensuring confidentiality.
· Responsible for ordering and monitoring the consumption of reagents and laboratory equipment.
· Ensure proper usage of all MSF laboratory material.
· Ensure correct handling and transporting of specimen and samples to be analyzed in referral labs.
· Follows universal precautions and waste management procedures within the laboratory including, but not exclusively:
- Handling of biological specimens
- Safe disposal of sharps & potentially infected material
- Decontamination & disinfection procedures
- Wearing of protective clothing
· To ensure proper use, security, maintenance and prompt service of the laboratory machines plus all other laboratory instruments.
· Keep organized the data collection system of laboratory results and all information generated from the analysis done.
· Report all relevant information linked to the activity in the laboratory to the line manager, especially the loss/robbery/damage of laboratory equipment or medicines.
· Facilitate training for all new lab staff (both MSF and MoH), and other non-lab staff when called upon.

· The responsibilities mentioned above are not exhaustive and other work can be required according to the needs of the mission.
· Mobility is requested from MSF staff, including short term assignments from their usual place of work.
· Part of any MSF-employee responsibilities is the attendance of trainings as per the requirements of the organisation.
