Médecins Sans Frontières (also known as Doctors without Borders or MSF) is a private, non-profit, international humanitarian medical organization that intervenes in emergencies and crisis situations to relieve human suffering resulting from unmet medical needs.

Main objectives and responsibilities of the position
Ensure medical consultations and treatment for patients, within the scope of his/her medical competencies. In accordance to the context, MSF protocols, procedures and the universal hygiene standards.
Work location: Kule, Gambella region.
As a HO in Kule project you will do rotations in the different health facilities of Kule project. Kule Project is responsible for the medical care in Kule camp (a 120 bed Health Centre in Kule 2C and three health posts in 2A, 2E and 2F), Tierkidi camp (three health posts in 1B, 1C,1D) and 1 mobile clinic in Pagak. During your rotations you will rotate between Health Centre and the different Health Posts. HO’s are also expected to join in the weekend- and nightshifts while they are on their Health Centre rotation.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES
• Ensure the implementation and standardization of MSF clinical policies, tools, and hygiene protocols in order to minimize clinical risks and to granting quality of patient case management.
• Management of referral for patients (working closely with the doctors, other medical departments).
• Promote and maintain confidentiality regarding all patient cases and records.
• Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking if they have understood the information given.
• Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with the medical team- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
• Implement diagnose, prescription and prevention procedures.
• Active participation in teaching fellow HO’s, nursing staff on medical subjects and the targeted population on therapeutic and preventive protocols.
• Carry out first aid care and treatment according to protocols in case of an emergency.
• Record in individual patient’s card and registration books all medical activities (drugs prescribed, lab results, vaccination status, epidemiological activity, doses, etc) performed keeping data traceability in order to ensure patients treatment continuity.
• Know and implement Patient Therapeutic Education (PTE), i.e. keeping contact with all patients, providing them information regarding their health state and responding to their questions.
• Working nightshifts, in which you are responsible for emergency care and in patient care including ITFC
Education: | Essential health officer diploma and professional license. |
