POSITION III: Livestock Destocking Officer
OPEN POSITION: Three
DUTY STATION: Sabba Boru (1), Aga Wayu (1) and Gumi Eldalo (1)
DURATION: September 30, 2017
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Becomes intimately familiar with all aspects of the relevant market system (livestock trade) the project is targeting including key actors (producers, livestock traders, transporters, financiers, intermediary and terminal markets, slaughterhouses); governance frameworks (formal and informal); and all support markets and functions;
· Gets intimately familiar with the Commercial Destocking Activities implemented by Mercy Corps as a response to the drought emergency in Liban Zone of ESRS by reviewing all past activities and all activity documentation;
· Participate actively in the identification of livestock trading enterprises on all levels as assigned by supervisors;
· Serve as a liaison with the livestock traders participating in the activity, monitor their performance, serve as a destocking agent on primary markets relevant for the activity as assigned by supervisor, identify and report on eventual irregularities in the implementation;
· Contribute actively in developing of key monitoring and measuring indicators, milestones and plans in close collaboration with supervisor and M&E team and solely responsible for monitoring and reporting all output, outcome and impact indicators for the Commercial Destocking;
· Ensures the program captures and responds to up-to-date information about market developments within respective market systems and global best practices for market systems strengthening.
· Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry/science, or Business Related subjects.
· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in private sector or working with other agencies in market systems facilitation, agribusiness or financial services
· Experience in working with livestock traders and other agribusiness.
· Good knowledge of the area in which to be assigned (Liban Zone of ESRS)
SUCCESS FACTORS:
· Fluent in English, Fluent in at least two of the following languages: Somali and Afan Oromo
· Business minded, entrepreneurial, curious, great problem solving skills, unafraid to ask questions, and results motivated.
· Excellent communication, facilitation and networking skills with a wide range of actors across geographical areas
· Computer literate especially in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
