Role purpose
To ensure effectiveness of climate knowledge exchange mechanisms in the Climate Information and Assets for Resilience in Ethiopia (CIARE) project through facilitating routine climate knowledge related project activities, fostering partnership among climate services actors, progress tracking and documentation of lessons in climate services. This post will have roles in directly coordinating technical activities of climate knowledge management implemented by UK Met Office and NMA. In addition, the role will contribute to the representation and brand of Christian Aid to engage with and promote its role in climate knowledge management at operational levels and establish strong linkage with government, donors, and the international community.
Role context
The role works within the International Programmes role family and will be part of the CIARE project management team in Ethiopia composed of the Senior Programme Manager, the Programme officer for climate change and the programme Finance Officer. He/she will be line managed by the Senior programme Manager (CIARE). The role is key to manage day-to-day technical activities relevant to climate knowledge management, programme wide support including capacity building to CA CIARE partnerships and programmes in Ethiopia and mainstreaming climate information in to livelihood enhancement interventions and decisions.
Key outcomes
· High quality assessment and documentation of climate risk in CIARE project intervention locations including post event assessments;
· Coordinate climate knowledge relevant joint research initiatives within the CIARE consortium and with other consortia;
· Facilitate delivery of climate training programmes in the CIARE consortium including tracking changes as a result of the training;
· Facilitate weather forecast validation and triangulation activities of NMA and UK Met Office in the CIARE project and produce report regularly;
· Consolidation of periodic reports on climate knowledge function of the CIARE project implemented by UK Met Office and NMA and getting approval of the reports from UK Met Office and NMA focal persons of the CIARE project;
. Nurture strong partnership among National Meteorological Agency, UK Met Office, and Christian Aid including CIARE consortium partners for effective climate knowledge exchange and application.Relationships
External: Fosters external relationship with CIARE partners, climate knowledge institutions, and the donor community.
Internal: The position has key roles in maintaining internal relationships with humanitarian, communication, fund raising, and M & E functions of CA.
Decision making:
This position will have decision making roles that include, but not limited to: consolidate and submit climate knowledge relevant reports on quarterly basis after getting approval from UK Met Office and NMA focal persons of the CIARE project; review and/or synthesize assessment and research reports; develop on data collection and analysis methodologies for climate knowledge management and get approval from UK Met Office and NMA focal persons of the CIARE project; and represent Christian Aid in climate knowledge relevant deliberations internally and externally.
Analytical skills
· The post holder will have the capacity to gather and analyze data and/or make use of empirical information to inform decision making. The person will employ professional data analysis packages in the climate knowledge realm for production and communication of high quality and decision relevant information;
. The post holder will have systems thinking capabilities and comprehensive understanding of the interplay among systemic elements to produce results and more importantly in the climate knowledge management system.Developing self and others
