In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on the commission of the Ethiopian government and international donors. GIZ Ethiopia is looking to recruit a Junior Innovative communication officer for the Biodiversity and Forest programme as specified below.

Duties and Responsibilities
The junior innovative communication officer provides support in
· Design of innovative capacity building and communication tools
· Contribute to development of maps and use of GIS
· Contribute to knowledge management and communication
· Assist communication responsible in general tasks
Tasks
Design of innovative capacity building and communication tools
· To analyses existing innovations in the field of communication and capacity building within GIZ programmes;
· To identify potential tools (software applications) that can be applied in the field according to available communication means and equipment
· To make a proposal on innovative capacity building and communication tools to be used by partner institutions for extension technical support in forestry and conservation;
· To evaluate existing communication means and equipment and suggest support needed
· To design specific tools according to partner and beneficiaries needs;
· To test tools until they are working properly;
· To introduce and train partners in the use of tool
Contribute to development of maps and use of GIS
· To cooperate with the mapping responsible in the development of interactive maps
· To support the implementation of GIS training
· To initiate and follow up GIS – Mapping and archiving, making interpreted maps available to interested people
Contribute to knowledge management and communication
· To maintain, monitor and upload documents to the digital library of the programme
· To develop a social media group for internal communication within the programme
· To identify and support the elaboration of communication guidelines and best practices for organizations
· To prepare proposals for web sites for partner institutions, in collaboration with the junior communication officer
· To implement design of requested web sites by partner institutions
· To prepare and perform on-line surveys
· To research, analyse and propose innovative internal communication tools
· To develop and maintain a database for programme relevant information
Assist communication responsible in general tasks
· To assist and / or carry out other tasks, as assigned
· To be able to travel to the intervention sites (national parks, biosphere reserves and forests) together with technical staff for a better understanding of the programme
· Train site experts and employee on computer software to improve efficiency.
· Create material and presentations for trainings and report writings.
· Assess employee IT capacity and suggest trainings and areas in need of improvement
Required Entry Qualifications, Competences, and Experience
Qualifications
· Studies in IT or similar
· Mastering of computer software
· Good mastering of the English language
Professional experience
· At least one year of professional experience in the area of ICT
· Professional knowledge of GIS
· Experience in handling VMs and digital library components
Other knowledge, additional competences
· outstanding working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, , email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
· willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
· Knowledge in web and mobile application development
· Effective written and oral communication with ability to produce reports and present solutions
