The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.
JOB SUMMARY
AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Network and System Administrator. Serves as a technical expert in the area of ICT as a Network and System Administrator.
The person is responsible for performing device or system running, Installing, monitoring, troubleshooting, administering devices, computer-related equipment, VPN Devices, Routers, Switches and other network devices as well as administering daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and available of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes also review system and application logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs (for example, daily backups, etc…)
He/She is also responsible for providing technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, or software. Responds to queries, runs diagnostic programs, isolates problem, and determines and implements solution to user needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Network Administration
· Perform device or system running, Installing, monitoring, troubleshooting, administering devices, computer-related equipment , VPN Devices, Routers, Switches and other network devices as well as administering network servers like Firewalls, Proxy Servers, Mail Gateways, etc...
· Performs network management i.e. LAN Administration, Remote Access Administration and administration of network Internet
· Administrate infrastructure, including databases, malware protection software and other processes
· Create and verify backups of data
· Troubleshoots and solves the most complex network connectivity problems, including monitoring the network and servers for problems, diagnosing problems, and taking the appropriate corrective measures to ensure an expedient resolution
· Defines and implements network disaster recovery and hardware, software and information protection and file integrity
· Ensures network security by insuring proper user accessibility, and being able to reasonably guard against the most complex threats to security that will face our network
· Experience with monitoring tools, and troubleshooting tools
· Ability to demonstrate technical understanding network and application layer protocols such as IPv4, IPv6, TCP, UDP, SMTP, DNS, HTTPS.
· Familiarity with Local Traffic Managers and Cisco Wireless controllers
· Defend systems against unauthorized access, modification and/or destruction
· Perform vulnerability and networking scanning assessments
· Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records.
System Administration
· Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and available of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes
· Review system and application logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs (for example, daily backups, etc…)
· Administrate and manage Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)
· Set up user accounts, permissions and passwords
· Set up user file sharing and mail exchanges
· Plan, test and execute software deployments, security updates and system patches
· Maintain system efficiency Upgrade systems and processes as required for enhanced functionality and security issue resolution
· Review application logs
· Ensure design of system allows all components to work properly together
· Evaluate and modify system's performance
· Maintain integrity of the network, server deployment, and security
· Make sure all server and computers are virus and malware free(Use Antivirus properly)
· Administer and support servers, desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, personal digital assistants, Smartphone’s, software deployment, security updates and patches
User support
· Provide technical assistance, maintain and support for incoming support requests and phone calls related to computer systems, software, hardware, drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers
· Manage the configuration and operation of client-based computer operating systems
· Monitor the system daily and respond immediately to security or usability concerns and cleanup computers
· Maintain network facilities in individual machines
· Troubleshoot problems reported by users. Analyze and isolate issues. Identify actions to restore services as quickly as possible and resolve problems reported by end user
· Monitor networks to ensure security and availability to specific users
· Run diagnostic programs to resolve problems
· Resolve technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and other systems
· Install computer peripherals for users and replacing parts as required
· setting up new users' accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues
Essential
· Willingness to work out of office hours to support the Institute network and system
· Run current unfinished ICT project together with INSA throughout its completion
· Cooperativeness to other duties as directed by the IT and Communication Team Leader
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· At least Four (4) years’ of relevant experience for Bachelors in Computer Science, computer engineering, Information Technology, MIS or related field
· Four (4) years’ experience in administrating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing network systems which includes firewalls, DNS, VPN, LAN, WLAN Cisco products, and Windows servers for load balancing, functionality, security, performance, patches, outages, redundancy, implementations and scalability
· Experiences in Windows operating systems, Windows server platforms (hyperV,)
· Experiences in Active Directory administration, including security groups, Group Policies, etc…
· Excellent knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure
· Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies
· Experiences in system administration role
· Experiences in computer help desk support
· Having one or more of these certificates A+, MCSE, MCSA, CCNA, CCNP are desirable but not required.
