Specific objectives of the programme:
Results to be measured:
Objective of the business engagement programme:
One of the main challenges for creative practitioners in Ethiopia is access to finance and making their practice financially sustainable. This is addressed in a number of ways through the creative futures programme. The action will particularly work to engage business leaders and diaspora more in the arts in Ethiopia. In other parts of the continent, notably in South Africa and Nigeria, patronage and support of the arts from business has played a significant role in the development of the sector. This programme should draw on best practice from Africa and Europe on the relationship between business and the arts. The programme should work to improve the knowledge and networks of creative business leaders along with case studies of how other leaders internationally engage with the sector.
DEVELOPMENT AND DELIVERY OF THE PROGRAMME
We are looking for an organisation or individual(s) with extensive experience in engaging business and the arts to lead on the development and delivery of a new programme to engage the business sector in Ethiopia with the arts. The training programme should deliver against the indicators listed above.
The work undertaken has three phases:
Phase 1: Development and delivery of a business breakfast meeting series. Business breakfast meetings will introduce business leaders to the benefits of engaging in and with the arts. A series of 8 business breakfast meetings will be delivered over the course of a year featuring talks from representatives of the business or arts sectors with case study examples of how this works in other places and crucially how engagement with the arts helped to drive innovation within businesses.
Phase 2: Arts experiences for business professionals. Alongside the breakfast meetings we will also offer 4 exclusive arts ‘experiences’ exclusively for this group where they will be invited to specially programmed arts events. These might include VIP opening events, or a tour of an exhibition by the artist or curator.
Phase 3: Development and delivery of a workshop series providing the business and arts sector with tools and models for better engagement in the future. The first workshop will be a day-long workshop for arts practitioners on how to engage with business. The second will be a workshop for business on how to best engage with the arts. A toolkit to accompany both workshops will be developed and published and made available to participants.
