Being an employee of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Ethiopia the Electro Mechanical Assistant is expected to represent NRC in a responsible manner and always act in accordance with NRC’s Code of Conduct.
Role & Responsibilities:
The objective of this position is to make sure that all generators, Pumps and other electromechanical equipment’s are fully operational to support continues water service delivery of Heloweyn & Buramino camps and its surrounding areas. He / she will be responsible general maintenance, testing and assembling of electromechanically equipment. He / she will manage the water sources/production task under the direct guidance of the PHE Officer – Watsan and Overall supervision of WASH Project Coordinator.

Specific responsibilities:
· Responsible for maintenance of pumps, generators and control panels. this include calibrating assemble to meet specifications and using test instruments like electronic Volt meter to gauge performance
· Train pumps operators on smaller minor maintenance and troubleshooting
· Ensure that all generators, boreholes have enough back up easily moving parts
· Responsible for Borehole maintenance
· Test and assemble newly bought electromechanical parts
· Prepare change schedule for generators like Oils
· Stand by generator routine check and periodic maintenance like on load test runs
· Prepare monthly & weekly reports
· Prepare the details specification including the items description, part # and quantity of spare parts necessary to fix the identified problems on electro – mechanical parts (pumps, generators set control panels etc. for water supply system.
· Data analysis on fuel consumption by generators and cost of repairs per generator or pump
· Inspect and correct all electromechanical parts
· Take a lead in procurement and processing of electromechanical spare parts
· Prepare regular reports on the boreholes yields, daily production, fuel consumption and running hours of the generators.
· Servicing and preventive maintenance on all the boreholes, surface pumps, control panels, submersible pumps and generators including minor and major overhauls of electrical components.
· Ensure operation and maintenance of the water pumping systems at the boreholes in Heloweyn and bur amino camps
· Observe occupational safety standards in the wellfield and treatment site and ensure proper arrangement of the equipment and tools in the site
· Maintenance of station site cleanliness and safety and ensure proper arrangement of the equipment’s.
· Keep records of all the repairs that have been done at the field as well the running hours of the generators to ensure timely servicing.
· Keep records of all generators fuel consumption and amount of water produced.
· Keep records on all the spares which have been used at the treatment and wellfield sites.
· Prepare monthly reports on activities and conditions of all the relevant system facilities.
· Support the WASH – PHE Officer – Watsan in procurement of the necessary fast moving spare parts, and working tools for the repair and maintenance of the boreholes, control panels, surface pumps and generators.
· To participate in recruitment of tank attendants and pump operators and ensure they are well trained.
· Collaborate with other agencies’ staffs working in the camps.
· Any other assignment as may be required by the line Supervisor or designee.
Generic professional competencies:
· Diploma in Electro Mechanical or related fields
· Minimum three years of relevant experience working as electro mechanical technician
· Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
· Documented results related to the WASH in the centre
· Computer literate
Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
· Knowledge of humanitarian setting in water and public health
· Knowledge and experience on the operation of motorized water supply scheme
· Extensive knowledge of WASH at least two years
· Have demonstrated experience on the generators and submersible pumps problem detection and servicing
· Languages preference being English and Somali
· Experience and considerable knowledge of the standard methods, principles, practices, tools and equipment of the maintenance.
