The goal of USAID’s Strengthening Ethiopia’s Urban Health Program (SEUHP) is to improve the health status of the urban population in Ethiopia by reducing HIV/TB-related and maternal, neonatal and child morbidity and mortality and the incidence of communicable diseases. The John Snow, Inc. (JSI) implemented SEUHP project is seeking a qualified Technical Assistants (TA) to work under the direct supervision of the Health Extension Program and Primary Health Services Directorate to enhance the effort towards the delivery of quality primary care at different levels of the health system through the development of guidelines, capacity building, knowledge management, evidence generation and other necessary technical support as needed.
Specific Responsibilities and Activities
The TAs is expected to accomplish the following activities:
· give technical support in developing guidelines and tools
· coordinate and give capacity building training as needed
· provide technical expertise and support the implementation of guidelines and standards across regions
· participate actively in technical working groups established in the directorate
· actively participate on supportive supervisions
· Support revitalization of the Health Extension Programme
· assist in collecting best practices and sharing to others
· assist in implementing the health center reform guidelines in urban areas
· engage in developing the technical capacity of experts and officers working at the directorate and regional health bureaus
· prepare and submit different deliverables such as work plan, weekly report, field report, and others
· Assist Monitoring and evaluation of Health extension Program activities,
· Knowledge management and evidence generation:- Support HEPHSD staff to gather evidence of programme impact and document lessons learnt.
· Carry out other duties as assigned

DURATION OF THE CONTRACT
· Ten months.
Main Purpose
· The TA shall be responsible for the implementation of all initiatives and activities under Health Extension Program. Shall advise and assist the team coordinator of Health Extension Program and Primary Health Services and the Directorate in connection with the Urban Health Extension Program in particular and Health extension program in general.
Reporting Relationships
· The TA shall report to the Director and Case Team Coordinator-Health Extension Programme and Primary Health Services.
Progress reports to be submitted to the supervisors at the end of each month and quarterly bases· Masters Degree in Health Sciences or health related disciplines (Preferably Public Health) and above
· Minimum of seven years professional experience in primary care in the Ethiopian setting
· Experience in urban primary care is preferred
· Demonstrated capacity and experience in producing national guidelines and tools independently, both in Amharic and English.
· Experience in training, coaching and mentoring health professionals
· Excellent interaction, persuasive and team player attitude
· Strong organizational and communication skills
· Good analytical skills and report writing
· Familiarity with the Ethiopian Health System
· Proven ability to work and interact with people from diverse social, professional and cultural backgrounds
· Have the capacity to support, coordinate, co-supervise and co-manage a large team of professionals
· Good computer skills and knowledge of data analysis skills
