The Registration Assistant will be stationed in Field Unit Aysaita and will be supervised by the Senior Field Associate with the overall guidance and supervision from the Head of Field Office Mekele.The Registration Assistant is responsible for performing activities related to registration, which may also include data collection, reception, filing and data management.
The Registration Assistant responds to queries from persons of concern regarding UNHCR's registration procedures and other protection related services. The Registration Assistant liaises with protection staff and partners to ensure timely identification and referral of persons of concern with specific needs for protection follow up.
The Registration Assistant may provide interpretation and/or translation services in cases for which s/he has the required language competencies.
Accountability
UNHCR's Registration Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are implemented in accordance with relevant UNHCR standards and policies.
Persons of concern have fair and transparent access to registration procedures.
Responsibility
Conduct level 3 registration in accordance with local SOPs and registration standards.
Respond to queries from persons of concern regarding UNHCR's registration procedures and other protection related services provided by UNHCR, national authorities and partners.
Provide statistics and data analysis as required.
Undertake data individual data upgrades with guidance and supervision from the accountable officer.
Identify persons with specific needs during registration processing and ensure timely referral to protection staff for follow-up as appropriate.
Collaborate with protection staff and/or partners in the delivery of assistance and programming, including provision of identity and entitlement documentation.
Act as interpreter and translator when needed.
Perform other related duties as required.
Authority
Refers individual cases to other functional units in the Operation and/or external partners for appropriate follow-up, in accordance with established criteria.
Counsel individual cases on the reasons for negative registration decisions, in accordance with the registration SOPs.
Job Requirement
Essential Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Completion of secondary education preferably with post-secondary training or certificate in social science, statistics, mathematics, information technology or related fields.
Minimum 5 years of relevant job experience (3 years with post-secondary certificate/training).
Excellent computer skills.
Proficiency in English and the Afar language
Desirable Qualifications & Competencies
Training in principles of international protection.
Experience in working with UNHCR ProGres software.
