company with operations in Ethiopia that performs time-sensitive shipments
throughout the capital city with plans to expand beyond. UCS’ largest brand
has been recognized internationally with mentions and features in media
outlets such as Reuters, the BBC, Deutsche Welle, AFP, Swiss Broadcasting
Position details
The Chief Operations Officer role reports to the CEO/GM and is accountable
for:
• Ensuring all shipments are delivered within the set timeframes
• Ensuring customer satisfaction and monitoring KPIs
• Updating the Board of Directors on operations benchmarks and
performance as well as the financial well-being of the department
• Identifying weaknesses and challenges in operations and working with
the CEO to address those weaknesses
• Ensuring that resources are being utilized as efficiently as possible and
within budget.
• Pro-actively identifying areas of improvement that will help scale
operations further

As we look to expand our existing offerings and introduce new services, we
are looking for a dynamic, Chief Operations Officer to plan, manage, and
scale our current operations to improve service quality and enable us to
expand further. The ideal candidate would have the following characteristics:
• 3-5 years minimum experience in an operations-focused role
(preferably on-demand logistics)
• 1-2 years minimum experience in a management and business
development role in an emerging market (preferably in a labor intensive
sector)
• 1 year minimum experience in finance (budgeting, forecasting,
reporting)
• Border-line obsessive attention to detail and time management
including analytics experience (e.g. building dashboards, running
simulations)
• Highly disciplined and capable of enforcing organizational standards
throughout all facets of operations (Lean Six Sigma experience is a
plus)
• Approaches challenges creatively and pro-actively responds to
potential risk factors that crop up during day-to-day operations
• Experience in managing human resources in accordance with local
laws and retaining/recruiting additional staff when necessary.
