GIZ-Sustainable Training and Education Programme
Background
As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives.
In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on commission of the Ethiopian government and international donors. GIZ Ethiopia (Sustainable Training and Education Programme Office) is looking to recruit a TVET Expert based in TVET Component of STEP as per the detail below

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Coordination and project management for the GIZ-activities in the TVET component. Areas are not limited to but could include the following:
a. RWTH Twinning Project with TVET Institute:
- Follow-up RWTH’s activities
- Act as point of contact for RWTH and TI
- Support RWTH missions during their visits in Ethiopia
b. Capacity Building for TVET colleges in priority sectors in material processing and manufacturing processes
- Identify demands of private sector in terms of technology knowledge and skills of their workforce (MSE study)
- Identify gaps in technology know-how and skills in TVET colleges
- Develop a Capacity Development Strategy for tackling the challenges related to material processing and manufacturing processes in the TVET colleges and involving the private sector further
- Initiate cooperation and pilot projects between TVET colleges and the private sector to close the skill and knowledge gaps at TVET colleges.
c. Support the implementation of Cooperative Training
- Study of 100 MSE that could be identified as potential partners to provide training in their company for TVET students (cooperative training approach)
- Support selected TVET colleges to organize and coordinate the implementation of cooperative training with the partner MSE (develop guidelines, MoUs, cooperation mechanisms, etc.)
d. Support the project’s activities for Technology Transfer:
- Cooperate closely with GIZ staff and Sequa on Technology Transfer Projects and Cooperative Training activities
- Develop further the project’s strategy and operational planning to reach the project’s objectives related to Technology Transfer and Cooperative Training
- Develop documentations of successful TT projects and formulate guidelines, standard operational procedures, selection criteria etc. for Technology Transfer projects
2. Support other project activities in order to reach the project’s objectives – areas of involvement will be agreed upon as needed
3. Support all general project management activities such as:
- Communication and PR
- Knowledge management
- Reporting
- Preparation of concepts, strategies and operational plans for current and follow-on phase of the project
4. Implement tasks under the technical guidance of Senior TVET Advisor. Disciplinary supervisor is TVET Component Manager of STEP
Required qualification and competencies
· Master’s degree in Mechanical or industrial Engineering or similar.
· 5 years of professional work experience
· Excellent language skills in English and Amharic (writing, speaking, listening)
· Flexibility and preparedness to perform a changing array of duties according to the needs of the programme
