JOB Summary
The SBCC Coordinator is responsible to provide guidance and technical inputs to SBCC strategy that promotes priority behaviours and social norms identified under the National Nutrition Program. S/he will ensure effective community mobilization to increase nutrition service seeking behaviours and provides technical leadership in community mobilization and engagement efforts at regional level. S/he will guide/support mobilization of Religious leaders, other community leaders and primary influencers to create an enabling environment for nutrition social and behaviour change at household level. S/he will provide technical inputs into the design, pretesting, development, production, print, audio and audio-visual materials and support related training activities.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
· Oversees and provides technical support in developing a strategic and results-oriented approach for all Social and Behavioural Change activities in the project.
· Provide technical leadership and support to the development of communication materials that align with and support government initiative, traditional media and that can be easily replicable and scalable particularly in a pastoralist setting.
· Lead development of SBCC materials that can works for platforms outside the health sector particularly in livelihood/safety net and education sectors
· Provide technical support in the design, use, and monitoring and evaluation of culturally appropriate, evidence-based SBCC media and materials to support adolescent, maternal and child nutrition in program areas.
· Supervise the translation of multi-media materials into local languages and review and revise existing training manuals and job aids.
· Substantially contribute to the systematic documentation and sharing of the SBCC media and materials design and development process and lessons learned
· Work with the nutrition team to strategically plan, design, implement and evaluate SBCC community engagement activities at community level.
· Work with the other nutrition team and partners to identify and promote local celebrities and positive role models to become ambassadors for nutrition action and headline advocacy, social change and community engagement events.
· Provide technical assistance to design and conduct trainings and workshops relevant to and social change.
· Make substantial contributions to the nutrition project SBCC work plans and reporting.
· Conduct field visits to supervise implementation of SBCC intervention and contribute for continued improvement
· Monitoring and Communication
· Support the design of appropriate monitoring and evaluation tool for advocacy and social change activities in collaboration with other nutrition staff, partner and stakeholders, including setting clear performance targets and identifying expected results.
· Collaborate with other projects/programs of Save the Children, working on multisectoral nutrition agenda such as RESET ıı in Afar to ensure synergy, sharing of technical resources, learning and mutual support and other projects which can serve as a platform for school based interventions
· Coordinate and collaborate with other NGO working in the region to assure effective integration and linkages of nutrition project and nutrition SBCC media and materials.
Participate in regular program meetings as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Ø Master’s or BSC Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Health communication, Communications, Behavioural Sciences, Health Promotion, or the Social Sciences.
Ø Four years of experience in designing SBCC strategy, developing BCC/SBCC messages and multi-media materials and implementing SBCC activities.
Ø Familiarity with a variety of media formats like low-literacy print, audio and audio-visual materials, music/dance/drama and other traditional/performance arts, radio, television, video and promotional materials.
Ø understanding of the media and materials design and development process, particularly within the context of strategic communication
Ø An understanding and commitment to Save the Children values.
Ø Excellent in written and speaking English and speaking Afar Language is an Advantage.
Ø Excellent computer skills (particularly Microsoft Office) and internet skills.
Ø Willingness to travel and work with rural communities
