Transform: Primary Health Care is a USAID funded project to improve healthcare outcomes to End Preventable Child and Maternal Deaths (EPCMD) in Ethiopia, which in turn support Government of Ethiopia’s efforts within the Health Sector Transformation Plan (HSTP). TRANSFORM/PHCU will operate in the four most populous regions of Ethiopia (Amhara, Oromia, Tigray and Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s Region). This will be accomplished in part by: mitigating the drivers of child and maternal mortality in Ethiopia’s most populous regions through the facilitation and implementation of quality health service delivery; improved management and performance of health systems; and implementation of innovative and evidence-based social behavioral change and communication interventions. TRANSFORM/PHC will strengthen the capacity of the health system to effectively use management tools and implement best practices at all levels of the health system and health care delivery with a major focus at the primary care level that includes primary hospitals and PHCUs.
Position Purpose
A driver and audio visual operator is responsible for providing safe and efficient transport for Program staff, visitors, pick-up and drop off of Program materials and equipment and day to day organization of van car film sessions at different occasions. Driver and audio visual operator will be under the direct supervision of the Regional Office Program Assistant at regional office.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure the Project vehicle assigned is in top condition, well oiled, well fueled, clean inside and outside, and ready for use each day.
Maintain a clean and professional personal appearance.
Operate the vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
Check daily with program assistant his daily destination time.
Consult program assistant about timely servicing and needed spare parts allowing sufficient time for the parts to arrive.
Maintain vehicle log and ensure that a traveler signs to acknowledge the travel.
During travel, if recognizing any threat to life and property, advise traveler to go back to base or divert to an alternate route.
Always drive, in cities and large towns with windows one inch open and advise the travelers to do the same.
Park vehicle in a safe location, such as Project offices, government offices or hotels.
Report any accident involving the vehicle as soon as practical by phoning the Program Assistant. A written accident report may be required from the driver and audio visual operator and any other travelers in the same vehicle.
Occasionally perform other duties (carry boxes, move furniture, photocopy, deliver checks, pick-up bills/invoices, etc.) required to ensure the smooth functioning of the Project.
Communicate the zonal health offices, WorHOs and different government community structure on the van car session schedule prior to the session submitting the official letters of assignment to the site
Organize and arrange the van car session for different film stage for communities in the rural and urban villages.
Regularity checks and ensures the availability and functioning of the audio visual equipment’s before the van session is going to happen and report immediately any defect on the mobile van instrument to the porgam assistant..
Play strong role in creating suitable environment for the van session in the field or hall as needed.
Work closely with volunteers and community leaders to organize and facilitate the van car session
Document both qualitative and quantitative data registered, compiled and on time report it to regional technical coordinator and the regional program assistant.
Periodic orientation of cluster drivers on estimation of attendant, data collection, compilation and reporting
Responsible to assist cluster drivers in maintain and functioning of their audio mounted mobile van.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
A driver shall have a certificate showing high school completion as well as an evidence of training in auto mechanics.
A minimum of 5 years of experience and a renewed 3rd grade driver’s license required.
Ability to write and speak in English and Local language is preferable.
NGO experience is advantageous
Previous experience of working with USAID funded projects.
Defensive driving certification preferred
First aid and CPR training certification preferred
