INTRODUCTION
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009. With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, gender based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.
DRC has started new program in Tigray regional state, where the organization is implementing a variety of youth protection activities in Hitsats, Mai-Aini and Adhi-Harush refugee camps, which are currently hosting a combined population of over 30,000 Eritrean refugees.
PURPOSE
Working under the direct management of the Shire-based Area Manager, the Protection Team Leader will be responsible for the overall implementation of the organization's current and future protection activities in Tigray regional state. The Protection Team Leader will be the direct and/indirect supervisor of Protection Officers, Protection Assistants, Education and Youth Engagement Officers and refugee incentive outreach workers. The Team Leader will regularly collaborate with other program staff, such as Infrastructure Team Leader and Legal Protection Coordinator, to ensure DRC's protection activities are holistic and that protection concerns and considerations are effectively mainstreamed throughout the program. Furthermore, the Protection Team Leader will be required to provide regular support and guidance to project cycle management, proposal development and program strategy, with specific contributions in the area of technical protection knowledge. The Team Leader will ensure the successful implementation of all protection-related activities and will work collaboratively with the Area Manager to monitor the operating context to ensure DRC's protection programing is relevant and responsive to priority humanitarian needs.
