Brief highlights of the Society
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established on the eve of Ethio-Italian war, on July, 8, 1935 and signed the Geneva Convention on July 25 of the same year and became 48th member of League of Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies on 25, September 1935. Since then the Society have engaged on providing Humanitarian services & community based development initiatives. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 11 Regional Offices, 32 Zonal Branches and 112 District/Woreda Branches and 3673 grass root committees/Kebele Red Cross Committees.

Job Summary
Under the general direction and supervision of the Deputy Secretary General DRM, the Head of the Disaster Preparedness & Response Department plans, directs and controls disaster management program components of the Society; formulates policies and procedures that enable to effectively and efficiently undertake disaster risk management program components of the Society in a standardized and consistent manner; manages analyzing and mapping risks and capacities of targeted communities, devising and implementing disaster risk preparedness & response mechanisms, building disaster responding capacities at national, branch and community levels, and undertaking other appropriate disaster preparedness and response courses of action in accordance with the policies and procedures in place for the purpose of the Society based on pertinent policies of the Government and the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Terms of employment: - Permanent after probationary period.
Required Educational Qualification and Experience: -
Second/First degree in Disaster Management/ Public Health/ Environmental science /Sanitary Science/ Health Education & Promotion/ Social Anthropology/Sociology/ Social Work/ Social Psychology/ Applied Psychology and 8/10 years related work experience, out of which 3/4 years in managerial position(s)
