1. Organizational Overview
Founded in 1957 in Nairobi, Kenya, Amref Health Africa is the largest African led non-government organization on the continent. With a vision ‘Lasting Health Change in Africa’, Amref Health Africa works to ensure every African can enjoy the right to health services by helping create vibrant networks of informed communities that work with empowered health care providers in strong health systems. Its strategies focus on community health systems strengthening, capacity building, advocacy and research. The organization is based in seven African countries and supported by 12 program and business development offices in Europe and North America. Amref Health Africa has been active in Ethiopia since the 1960’s and became fully operational and registered as an international NGO in 2002. The programs it delivers in Ethiopia include: maternal health, Child health, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Communicable diseases, Clinical Outreach services, Emergency Nutrition, HEWs and Midwives Training and Operational Research. The training and the clinical outreach programs are implemented nationally across all regions of Ethiopia. Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia is currently implementing more than 25 projects in different regions focusing on the improvement of health status of the less advantaged communities.
As part of its Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Program, Amref Health Africa is implementing Urban WASH projects in Addis Ababa city as of 2007. The Urban WASH has components of Safe Water supply, solid and liquid waste management and personal hygiene interventions. Therefore, In line with its Sanitation Daily Project being implemented in three sub cities of Addis Ababa namely; Lideta, Kirkose and Addis Ketema, Amref Health Africa would like to invite innovators who have innovative labor saving technology for solid waste management to compete for promotion opportunity through mass media and workshop. The labor saving technology for solid waste collection and transport is hoped to contribute to the advancement of solid waste management of Addis Ababa City.
2. OBJECTIVES:
The main objective of this call is to assemble new technology on solid waste collection and transport and then to establish a forum for exchange and sharing of knowledge and skills through workshop and mass media to sellout the innovations to the intended purpose. The innovative technology is intended to contribute to the city’s solid waste management advancement and thereby contribute to positive health, psychological and social impact.
§ Gain an opportunity to promote his/her innovation to various stakeholders through TV program and organized workshop
§ Certificate of recognition for inventing solid waste collection and transport labor saving technology
§ Perdiem and accommodations will be provided to cover transportation cost for innovators presenting their innovation at organized workshop
