ROLE PURPOSE:
Under the guidance of the program manager at field office level, the post holder will be responsible for supervising the project activities of ‘Improving facility-based New-born Care in South Wollo Zone’. S/He will ensure that the project activities are effectively supervised. S/he will be responsible to provide technical support in the overall implementation of the project activities which contributes to the reduction of neonatal mortality by improving facility based essential new-born care and care for small /pre-term and sick babies at hospitals and selected health centres in South Wollo Zone.
KEY Roles and Responsibilities
Technical Support
· Supervises/implements the project in close collaboration with the Zonal project coordinator and the Health Program Manager
· Facilitates new-born care trainings for health workers and other health facility staff
· Conduct regular supervisory visits to health facilities, these visits will include on-the-job coaching, mentoring, discussions and practice of baby-cantered care
· Ensures the appropriate utilization of supplies procured and delivered to the health facilities
· Conducts joint supportive supervision with partners at health facilities
· Ensures all the required data related to facility-based New-born Care are captured appropriately
· Engages in baseline/end line facility assessments
· Ensures the establishment of well-functioning new-born corners within the health facilities
· Builds and maintains good working relationships with the health centre and district staffs
· Keeps skills and knowledge updated
· Other duties as assigned
Reporting
· To provide timely activity report to the project coordinator on weekly basis
· To utilize the appropriate assessment tools/checklists so as to monitor the changes coming from the intervention
· To gather information, document and communicate project achievements and lessons learned and best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
· First degree in Midwifery or Clinical Nursing with midwifery background
· At least four years of experience as a clinician providing new born health care at least two of which should have been as a coach or mentor
· Experience on ‘New-born Care’ and management of cases
· Proven ability to collect & analyse data and write reports that are of high demand
· Familiarity with the national CBNC/IMNCI program implementation
· Training on Helping Babies Survive(HBS) is mandatory
· Experienced in organizing and facilitating trainings
· Computer literate (Word, Power point and Excel)
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal)
· Experience in working with multicultural team and complex projects
· Fluency in English, writing and speaking and local language
· Ability to work in team, strong negotiation and analytical skills; ability to multitask and work under pressure and tight deadlines.
· Willingness to intensively travel outside of the district within intervention health facilities
· Commitment to Save the Children values.
