Provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to the center’s protocol. Provide basic newborn care, intra-partum and postpartum care using standardized universal infection prevention protocols. Work under direct supervision and consultation of specialist doctors (gynecologist and pediatrician) to ensure health condition of mothers and their babies and prevent and manage post-operative complications.
Duties and responsibilities
Ensure the implementation and continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, family planning (according to the catholic church position), obstetrical care, neonatal and spontaneous post abortion care, using implementation of standardized protocols.
Provide care for obstetrics and gynecologic cases admitted in the maternity ward.
Provide and ensure implementation of PMTCT services using the national standard protocol.
Apply universal infection prevention practices
Requests and avail regularly and continuously supply of drugs and equipment required for maternity activities.
Properly follow up all new born babies from delivery until discharge, counseling mothers and relatives about importance of breast feeding, vaccination and possible complications
Ensure patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality is respected
Ensure that information is properly recorded in the patient card and registration book
Supervise that administrative procedures of admissions and hospitalizations comply with the center’s protocol and all the necessary information and documents (birth certificate, immunization…) are provided on discharge.
Participate in the organization of the ward in collaboration with other midwives and the maternity ward supervisor.
Ensure transfer of relevant information to the next shift team (specially identifying risk cases)
Education: Bsc in Midwife
