About Yale GHLI and the PTI project: The mission of the Global Health Leadership Institute (GHLI) at Yale University is to create and support innovative education and research programs to improve human health and health equity around the world. The PTI project is a collaboration between the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health, and the Yale Global Health Leadership Institute.
Project Overview: The Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) Transformation Initiative (PTI) is an effort to transform management and leadership capacity across primary health care in Ethiopia. Specifically, this project aims to build a culture of performance management and accountability at the woreda, zonal and regional level in Ethiopia. Key activities of the project include integration of key performance indicators in management decision making, application of effective management standards, establishing a well-functioning PHCU management team through a partnership mentoring model and a certificate-level training, and fostering consistent governance and community engagement through integrated governing boards.
Job overview: The PTI Project Director will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in all activities of the PTI project including, implementation and scale up. The PTI Project Director will lead the PTI team with human resources, program and financial management. This role will make a long-term commitment to live in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to lead the project, manage the PTI project team, and ensure project objectives are met. This position will liaise with senior federal and regional government officials, implementing partners, and related GHLI technical staff. This position will report to the Country Director based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Education and Experience
Masters degree in healthcare administration, public health, or a related field and 8-10 years of demonstrated experience in health care management, governance and leadership in low resource settings; well-developed problem solving abilities; success in leading interdisciplinary and intercultural work teams; success in fostering and maintaining organizational relationships and affiliations; experience in community engagement, project design, financial management, strategic planning, health facility operations, and performance management.
Language skills and Reasoning Ability
Ability to effectively communicate information and data in written and verbal form to colleagues, senior management, government officials and the public; possess well-developed writing skills, including the ability to write public materials and reports for various constituencies; the ability to interpret and apply instructions in diverse settings; English and Amharic proficiency required. The successful applicant must hold work and resident permit to live and work in Ethiopia.
