Maternal and Child Morbidity and Mortality Surveillance
Background
Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in collaboration with Harvard University will be conducting a longitudinal survey of mothers and children in North Shewa, Amhara region, in a collaborative project on Maternal and Child Morbidity and Mortality Surveillance.
The proposed initiative will help to understand the epidemiology of childhood diseases in Ethiopia, we will focus on four main objectives:
Identify severe illnesses and deaths in the catchment population (community and health facilities) among pregnant women and children <5 years old and identify risk factors for mortality.
Track changes in public health interventions and acute illness presentations and mortality over time to assess the impact of health interventions among children <5 years.
Build the capacity of Federal Ministry of Health and local institutions in the generation local evidence for action and facilitate the uptake of evidence on child health morbidity and mortality.
The project coordinator position will provide leadership to the daily activities of the study survey including planning, execution, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation. S/he will also serve as a liaison between SPHMMC and the other stakeholders.
Summary of Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Duration of work: 1 year with yearly extension based on performance (total of 2&1/2 years)
