GIZ-CPS Program
Background
As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives. GIZ promotes complex reforms and change processes.
In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on commission of the Ethiopian government and international donors.
Germany’s Civil Peace Service (CPS) operates in many regions around the world. It deploys trained peace experts who work with local partners in the long term. In Ethiopia, the CPS is starting a new three years programme in the Oromia Region of the country. CPS National Personnel (NP) work in a team of International Peace Advisors (IPAs) and national staff in the CPS programme office in Addis Ababa, under supervision of the Programme Coordinator of the GIZ Civil Peace Service. Within this context, the NP will fulfil the following tasks:-

“Conflict Transformation / peace building” Expert will work as part of a team:-
§ Conceptionalize and undertake conflict sensitive conflict analysis including desk studies
§ Identify stakeholders in selected communities
§ Explore capacity development needs and develop and facilitate tailor-made trainings and workshops
§ Support the establishment of space, structures and strategies for peace dialogues
§ Contribute to planning, monitoring and evaluation of the CPS programme as well as documentation
§ Contribute to gender mainstreaming of the CPS programme
Required Entry Qualifications and Competences:
§ BA in Social Sciences or any other related field
§ Advanced degree preferred
Professional Experience and Qualification
§ At least five years of professional work experience (with references) in peace building
§ Sound knowledge of and experience in conflict sensitivity/DNH, conflict analysis, alternative dispute resolution and dialogue processes
§ Skills to facilitate peace dialogues, workshops and trainings on conflict transformation,
§ Proven experience in supporting local initiatives including traditional leaders in conflict - transformation and -prevention
§ Working with Regional and Federal Government Institutions
§ Knowledge of land management practices is an asset

§ Strong team working and interpersonal skills
§ Coordination and networking skills
§ Good organizational and time management skills to prioritize workloads and tasks
§ Readiness and willingness to undertake extensive fieldtrips even under harsh conditions
§ Excellent proficiency in English (spoken and written)
§ Proficiency of Amharic is required and Afan-Oromo would be an asset
Excellent proficiency in MS Office Suite (word, excel, power point, outlook)
