Reports To: Logistics Officer, Clearing
1. Purpose of the Position:
Assist the Clearing Officer with preparing tax exemption/budget requests letter for incoming aid cargo shipments and submits it to the Clearing Officer for review and approval by subsequent management. When approval is granted, the position holder assist in takings to the concerned government offices with a copy of the Ocean Bill of Lading/shipping documents and other supporting documents, including the approved request for tax exemption/budget letter.
The position holder will also provide driving service to him/herself and the clearing officer at all the time during clearing duties and ensure that vehicles assigned for Logistics provide primary service for the clearing officer and consequently for Logistics.
2. Key/Specific Duties and Responsibilities
2.1 Assisting in the Processing and Clearing Shipping documents
Develops contract with concerned offices, especially with Ministry of Agriculture, Customs, Agents for the coordination of issues affecting incoming shipments.
Assist the clearing officer to handle all approved and appropriate Logistics support requests.
Assist the Clearing Officer with preparing tax exemption/budget requests letter for incoming aid cargo shipments and submits it to the Clearing Officer for review and approval by subsequent management
The position holder takes the approved requests to the concerned government offices with a copy of the Ocean Bill of Lading/Shipping documents and other supporting documents, including the approved request for tax exemption/budget letter.
Effect payments, handle minimal transactions and clearing as assigned by the supervisor.
Backs up the Clearing Officer during her absence.
Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Work as clearing assistant in carrying over effecting payments, minimal transactions and clearing when instructed by supervisor.
3.Minimum Qualifications Requirements:
3.1 Education & Experience
2 Years relevant experience for 1st Degree or 6 years relevant experience for College Diploma
3.2 Competencies/knowledge, Ability and Skill
§ Very good understanding of the Clearing Agent’s operations in Ethiopia and Djibouti
§ Ability to easily understand and execute oral and written English instructions
§ 3rd grade driving license and completion of Diploma in business or other related discipline. Training on automotive will be an asset
§ Good communication skills, proven experience in driving both in town & outside town
§ Certificate on customs clearing and auto-mechanics skill will have an added value
