Program Background: Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) Ethiopia carries out a wide range of programs to support the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia in improving the health status of the country by ensuring access and quality of health services. We are committed to increasing our effectiveness through a program approach that optimizes quality, impact and scale. Being the largest CHAI field office worldwide, we currently employ over one hundred staffs working in the following seven programs: The Ethiopian Hospital Management Initiative (EHMI), Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH), Access to Medicine, Lab Services, Vaccines Introduction, Nutrition, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Global Health Financing.
Ethiopia is among the nations with the highest maternal and under five mortality rates. The latest available estimates (DHS2016) show that there are 412 maternal deaths p[DB1] er 100,000 live births, 29 Neonatal, 48 Infant and 67 under five mortalities per 1,000 live births annually. Though progress has been made in the reduction of mortalities compared with the 2000 estimates, much effort is needed to meet the ambitious Goals of Child Survival Strategy (2015-2020)s to reduce under five mortality to at least 29 /1,000, infant mortality rate to 20/1000 and NMR to 11/1,000 by 2020.
CHAI Ethiopia’s Child Survival Program (CSP) is focused on optimizing the policy environment for and improving accessibility to key commodities for the treatment of diarrhea and pneumonia including oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, amoxicillin dispersible tablets (Amox DT) and Zinc/ORS at appropriate levels of care.
JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Program Manager leads/manages the project, overall direction, organization, control, planning, implementation and monitoring/evaluation. This includes communication with global and high level communication with FMOH/PFSA/FMHACA/Regions and partners, and participation in. in the national Technical Working Group (TWG) of MNCH to facilitate guidelines and standards revision. The Senior Program Manager will lead annual and quarterly plan preparation and budget planning and reforecasting, and will be responsible for the regular review of the program with team and senior management of CHAI Ethiopia. The Senior Program Manager will submit all necessary reports, plans and other assignments given by CHAI Ethiopia senior management and global program manager in time and will work closely with global essential medicines team.
