Terms of Reference for Team Leaders
1. BACKGROUND TO THE ASSIGNMENT
Save the Children has been working in Ethiopia since 1989 delivering humanitarian and development interventions supporting the regional governments on different humanitarian interventions and development initiatives. Major thematic areas of experience are livelihoods and food security, WASH, health, nutrition, education, DRR, and early warning in response to drought, flooding and other disasters.
Since May 2015, Save the Children in partnership with UNICEF has been implementing a Maternal Infant Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) project in 11 woredas of Afar region and IYCF-KAP study including other three regions (Amhara, Afar and Tigray).
Save the Children in collaboration with UNICEF and the Government of Ethiopia planned to conduct a study on Nutrition, Food Security, WASH, Health and related issues in four Regions-Amhara, Benshangul Gumz, Afar and Tigray. For this study, Save the Children in Ethiopia is looking to hire individuals who have the experience and competencies on IYCF, KAP and Nutrition studies/researches on a consultancy base for the following position.
Place of Work - Different Woredas and Zones of Amhara, Benshangul Gumz, Afar and Tigray Regions.
2. OVERALL OBJECTIVE
The main objective of this consultancy is to undertake IYCF-KAP study and document lessons learned for future programing in the four regions of Ethiopia (Amhara, Benshangul Gumz, Afar and Tigray)
3. SCOPE OF THE WORK
Under the guidance of the survey Coordinators at the regional level and overall coordination of the Lead Investigator the position holder will be responsible for assisting and coordinating household data collectors and checking quality of the data collected overnight.
4. DELIVERABLE/OUTPUTS
· Raw data of the four regions IYCF-KAP Survey in hard copy
5. DURATION/START AND COMPLETION DATES
The study will be conducted from 1-30 December 2017 (30 days in total) including training, travel, analysis and write-up.
6. RESPONSIBILITY OF SCI
· Arrange transportation and all required logistics, equipment and survey tools for this study
· Organize training sessions
· Review delivered reports on time and give feedback for incorporation and finalization
· Settle the payment for the consultant upon submission and acceptance of the report
7. RESPONSIBILITY OF THE FREELANCER/INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANT
· Review and give feedback on the household data collection tool both during the training and data collection process
· Responsible for coordinating and supporting household data collector teams in the field
· Organises briefing meeting with his/her team before departure in morning;
· Checks the quality of data collected overnight and give feedback to the data collectors;
· Ensures that houses with missing data are revisited before leaving the field on the same day;
· Give the filled questionnaire after checking to the Survey Coordinator the next day
· Any other activities which demanding his/her input on this study starting from commencement through implementation up to completion
8. SUBMISSION OF DELIVARABLES
The filled hard copy of questionnaires should be checked overnight and be submitted to the data entry clerks every other day during the field data collection
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· First degree and above in Nutrition, health, social science, natural science, education or related fields
· Previous experience on related surveys
· Physically fit and willing to travel house to house in the selected Zones, and Woredas from the four regions
· knowledge of the local language is preferred
· Those who participated during the 2015 similar study and had good track record on their achievement, dedication and team integrity will have an advantage
