Objective: The role of research advisor is to lead, manage, foster relations and coordinate all aspects of CARE’s formative investigation for TESFA+ project in its phase I and to ensure high quality communication and deliverables throughout the process.
TESFA+ builds on previous experience implementing the Towards Economic and Sexual Reproductive Health Outcomes for Adolescent Girls (TESFA) program and research on its impact and sustainability. TESFA+ Phase 1 will investigate and identify the essential components of the TESFA model that have contributed to the self-replication and sustainability we have already observed in Ethiopia. This will also entail learning from users what they see as the factors facilitating or impeding TESFA sustainability and replication. Recognizing that the young women from the original TESFA groups have over 7 years’ experience participating in TESFA and have already shared ideas and suggestions for how to improve the model – we will seek to harness their and other key stakeholders’ suggestions for enhancing the model.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Leadership and facilitation in research (specifically Tesfa+)
§ Develop and maintain a data base of the formative research activities of Tesfa+, timely updates, and facilitate access;
§ Responsible for briefings and for providing information resources to PMT/top management and CARE USA.
§ Take the lead in familiarizing stakeholders and partners regarding the formative research as needed and appropriate.
Promote Learning, Documentation, Sharing and Networking
§ Document learning’s from the research for sharing to programs and to be used for proposal design;
§ Collaborate and share information with CARE International and other members as needed- based on consensus with CARE Ethiopia team and CARE USA.
Advisory services and engagement
§ Provide timely advisory service and build the capacity of relevant CARE staffs in using the learning from the research finding.
§ Provide advice to the research partner, SRH team and others related to the research.
§ Provide technical advice and support to the research partner and concerned units and teams.
Responsible for supervising and supporting research partner(s) as needed
§ Oversee research partner and the whole process of the research.
§ Identify activities/gaps and proactive actions to be performed by different bodies and follow up for their accomplishment.
Perform other duties as assigned

All the three levels of problem solving apply to the incumbent and must use interpolative skills to pick and choose the right strategy to address a given problem and also has to deal with variable situations, which need analysis, problem definition and development of alternative solutionsQUALIFICATIONS
A) EDUCATION/TRAINING
Required:
§ Master’s degree in public health, demography, statistics, social sciences or related field or equivalent experience
§ Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
B) EXPERIENCE
Required:
§ Minimum five years of work experience in monitoring and evaluating and/or mixed method research, including development of reports and data analyses, overseeing data collection at various levels to ensure accuracy and clarity of data interpretations and definition.
