Ensuring proper scouting for pest and diseases in the farm.
Advice on the best crop protection approach basing it on the scouting reports. And ensure disease and pest monitoring strategies are in place.
Implement preventive measures against pests and disease.
Train, motivate, agree on job descriptions, work plans and appraise all scouting and spraying team working under you to ensure that they are adequately equipped to handle scouting and spraying work under your supervision.
Ensure all the steam samples to be sent for viral & bacterial test per the level of the green house (ps1,ps2 & ps. for all crops) according to the Phyto protocol
Initiate, implement and follow the progress on IPM program.
Ensure labor control and discipline of your team by enforcing company rules and regulations.
Reporting to the farm management and the regional Phytosanitary Lead in a concise, detailed and comprehensive monthly reports via email.
Monitoring the farm phytosanitary KPIs and acting on non-conformances with the relevant people
Be in charge of the site lab and lead microscopic diagnosis for diseases and report the findings to the relevant people promptly for appropriate action.
Plan the phytosanitary awareness program as needed.
Plans and monitors spray program to achieve pathogen free cuttings at sustainable cost.
Co-ordinates and ensures that crop protection team attend regular medical check-ups including regular Cholinesterase tests and follow up on the transfer of staff as per doctor’s recommendation.
Ensures that all security and safety procedures in handling chemicals are strictly adhered to by CP staff for auditing and compliance.
Ensures flushing and cleaning of the spray equipment’s to prevent damages on the plants during chemical application.
Ensures that measuring and mixing of chemicals is done appropriately for efficacy.
Prepares the daily spray program for timely spraying.
Maintain chemical spray records for traceability, references and audit purposes.
Makes follow ups on the efficacy of the chemicals for better pest and disease control.
Ensures appropriate employees spray rotation program is in place for compliance with local legislation, health of employee and certification.
Ensures that spray team adequately uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure.
Ensures that spraying equipment’s are calibrated and in good working condition for effective application and safety.
Trains the team to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Evaluates the team to measure performance and identify areas of improvement
Ensures compliance with all phytosanitary protocol to achieve high quality cuttings.
Ensure timely requisition of chemicals for smooth implementation of spray program
Allocate spray labor to various production sections for smooth implementation of spray program and disinfection.
Conducts Phyto-toxicity tests for new chemicals to confirm their safety on crops.
Enforces the HSE rules and regulations to be implemented according to the Syngenta HSE policy and standards and be a champion.
Job Requirement
Critical Knowledge:
Degree in Horticulture and Advanced diploma in technical Education
Minimum 5 years’ experience in scouting and or Crop protection.
Critical Skills:
Proactive approach to prevent disease and pests.
Ability to provide urgent solutions.
Ability to work under pressure.

Prepare routine reports and maintain routine records
