Project Harar Ethiopia (PHE) is an Ethiopian resident Charity, registered in E.F.D.R Ethiopian Charities and Societies Agency. The charity is working on facial disability including cleft lip and palate and collaborates with government sector organizations, NGOs and local communities to identify children born with congenital anomalies and later develop facial deformity from Ethiopia, and arranges for them to access free medical treatment and rehabilitation. PHE further intervenes in demand and awareness creation interventions to the health extension and social workers as well as risk reduction interventions among pregnant mothers and the general public in its intervening regions. PHE provides vitamin supplementations and nutrition resources for its beneficiaries who are in need of it. Apart from this, PHE recently initiated community based speech therapy for children born with cleft palate in Oromia region. The project is the first in its kind in Ethiopia and perhaps in Sub Saharan African countries. PHE works in Oromia , SNNPR and Somali regions of Ethiopia and now expanding its operations in to other regions of the country including Afar.
Congenital anomalies are a neglected health and asocial aspect which requires interventions to magnify the magnitude, predisposing factors, treatment and rehabilitation. PHE is receiving different forms of awareness grant from its supports so as to create awareness about the cause, possible supports and available treatment and rehabilitation options.
