This is an interesting, four-month research project in two Gambella refugee camps studying the impact of our mental health and care practice ‘Baby Friendly Space’ service for South Sudanese refugees. This service helps to increase the health status and emotional well-being of pregnant and lactating mothers and their children. We are looking for an individual with a BA or MA in Psychology with experience of conducting a research project. You will have good monitoring and project implementation skills, be able to speak and write in English and work with different staff and beneficiaries within the camps. This is an internationally validated study, funded by the Action Against Hunger Foundation in France, and validated by the John Hopkins University in America.
Responsibility:
1: To monitor and supervise the implementation of the research project.
Ø Lead with the implementation of the agreed study methodology, working with internal and external colleagues.
Ø Coordinate the recruitment of BFS+ staff (producing job descriptions, conducting interviews, administering tests...) and train them according to their tasks and required competencies
Ø Accompany scientific partners in the field and facilitate their work
Ø Information Management in the population targeted by the research (consent and confidentiality, etc.)
Ø Contribute with feedback and recommendations according to needs for the psychosocial intervention protocol
Ø Supervise the research and facilitate its implementation
Ø Order advance equipment and plan in collaboration with the logistics department of the mission
Ø Organize all the logistics associated with the research including testing rooms, transport of psychosocial workers and testers, etc.
Ø Ensure the quality of data testing, collection and data entry during the entire research project.
2 : Supervise and management of the research team
Ø Team coordination and management (leadership, monitoring, motivation) of nominated research staff
Ø Coordinate, liaise, and provide direct support and supervision to the BFS+ research team, conducting team and one-to-one meetings on a regular basis
Ø Working out and following through individual action plans for team members
Ø Collaborate on training and staff development of team members
Ø Managing planning, work-sharing and coordination of work
Ø Providing for assessment interviews with team members
Ø Providing technical support for the teams
Ø Dealing with problems within the team
Ø Evaluation of team members
3 : To guarantee the quality of research data collection:
Ø Train staff concerned and ensure compliance with the field research protocol
Ø Oversee the inclusion of study subjects, the exclusion of other
Ø Collect and oversee data entry and participate in the analysis
Ø Make a schedule for monitoring individuals included in the study, in partnership with the operational teams and scientific partners
Ø Prepare weekly/monthly reports on the progress of the study to the nominated field team managers, mission technical term and headquarters project and partners
Ø Ensure project communication to the public and the authorities at local level
Ø Report to the referees in case of problems on the ground (bad data collection, difficulties in maintaining the calendar, etc.)
Ø Alert if risk identified for the proper conduct of the study.
Ø Ensure that confidentiality (data, person, protocols) is respected at all level of management
Ø Perform any related duties as assigned by the line manager
4 : To participate in the dissemination of results locally and internationally:
Ø Ensure communication of project results at local level
Ø Contribute in the writing of the final research report with "contextual" and "operational" aspects
Ø Contribute in the writing of scientific and non- scientific articles in collaboration with the research team
