Programme for Agro-Business Induced Growth in Amhara National Regional State ‘AgroBIG’ is an agricultural development programme using the Value Chain Approach. The purpose of AgroBIG is to assist in developing value addition at various levels of selected agricultural value chains in order to increase incomes and create jobs for farming households and other value chain actors, with a particular emphasis on women and youth.
AgroBIG is a bilateral initiative, funded jointly by the governments of Ethiopia and Finland. Technical assistance is provided by NIRAS.
The second phase of the Programme is starting, to run till the end of 2021 having eight woredas within Tana-Beles Growth Corridor in Amhara as the target area. AgroBIG supports local governments, individual entrepreneurs and companies, farmers and their cooperatives through grants, loans, capacity building and technical assistance (TA). The TA team consists of five national and three international staff members with duty stations in Bahir Dar (main office), Merawi and Woreta.
AgroBIG Rural Finance Advisor is responsible for activities related to grant and loan finance provided through AgroBIG programme. This includes planning and coordination of the implementation of activities, coaching of and provision of hands-on support to various Programme stakeholders and finance applicants, systematic monitoring of progress and results based reporting.
