The Position: The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) seeks to recruit a Project Accountant who will be responsible for maintaining proper financial and project records according to the procedures established by World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF)/the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) by referring to respective guidelines. He/she will be responsible for preparing financial report as required by ICRAF/ILRI.
General: The World Agroforestry Centre (also known as the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry-ICRAF) is an independent research institution which generates science-based knowledge about the complex role trees play in agricultural landscapes and rural livelihoods. As part of the Centre’s work to bring tree-based solutions to bear on poverty and environmental problems, researchers – working in close collaboration with partners – are developing new technologies, tools and policy recommendations for increased food security and ecosystem health. The Centre’s headquarters are located in Nairobi, Kenya, and research is conducted in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Key Responsibilities:
The duties of the Project Accountant will under the supervision of and in close collaboration with the ICRAF Country Representative (ICR) and the Senior Team Leader (STL)) that will include the following duties:
Prepare project payments by verifying documentation and ensure that payments have proper authorization and supporting documents;
Process project advance liquidation or expense recording after the receipt of the original invoices and relevant documents by verifying the supporting documents presented are appropriate, sufficient and in line with the policy;
Ensure project/ Provision of Adequate Tree Seed Portfolios (PATSPO) partners’ financial returns are submitted;
Review advance requests and financial returns by partners with reference to contractual obligations and partner financial obligations liquidation effected in the One Corporate System (OCS), and work closely with partner’s finance team for successful implementation of Provision of Adequate Tree Seed Portfolios (PATSPO);
Control bank account balances and report when the balance is low so as to take the necessary action before checks are written;
Prepare monthly project imprest reports, bank reconciliation and cash book records, and organize supporting documents in the manner required;
Prepare country office monthly project imprest request and share with ICRAF Head Quarters;
Maintain accurate, updated/real-time and secured accounting record in OCS;
Ensure the availability of sufficient cash at the bank and liaise with ICRAF Head Quarters for transfer of project imprest fund to the ICRAF Ethiopia office/ Provision of Adequate Tree Seed Portfolios (PATSPO);
Ensure that payment commitments are honored on time;
Check the accuracy and compliance of petty cash expenditure and its timely replenishment;
Review partners quarterly finance report & share to ICRAF Regional Office/PATSPO and work closely with partner’s finance team for successful implementation of PATSPO;
Prepare detailed monthly, quarterly and annual project internal financial report for PATSPO and share with the Project Management Team (PMT) for management decision;
The Project Accountant will report to the ICRAF Country Representative (ICR) and the Senior Team Leader (STL).
Education:
A minimum of 5 years relevant working experience in similar positions at international organizations like the research institutions under the CGIAR setup is an added qualification
Skills:
Familiarity with developments in accounting
Proficiency in MS Office and relevant accounting systems

Grade: 2C
Minimum Base Salary: Birr 16,616.00 (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, offshore pension plan, etc. The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.
