Job Summary:
The Lead Software Engineer is charged with working with the project stakeholders and end users to execute full EMR, HMIS, LIS software development life cycle (SDLC) and/or maintain existing solutions. The Lead Software Engineer will also be responsible for overseeing software design, including the development of architectural designs and documents (e.g., flowcharts, layouts and diagrams) to identify and communicate solutions for the existing systems and/or new selections. The Lead Software Engineer will also oversee integration software components into a fully functional software system, development of software verification plans and quality assurance procedures, compliance with project plans and industry standards, documentation, and maintenance and updates to software.
Duties and responsibilities:
· Analyze detailed customer requirements and coming up with a solid systems architecture and design including developing a thorough functional requirements document
· Provide overall technical support regarding software development and updates, implementation, maintenance and capacity building activities among all supported project sites.
· Should understand customer requirements and develop and monitor a work plan for the project.
· Establish a programming team and be responsible for assigning tasks and developing the major aspects of the code
· Design major aspects of the database and the user interface.
· Establish source control mechanism so that teams of developers can share source code
· Lead team efforts towards successful HIS development project delivery
· Provide technical leadership to team through mentorship and coaching
· Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits
· Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team in relation to the organization’s vision and available state of the art technologies
· Facilitate in the collection and documentation of user requirements, estimates and work plans
· Prepare reports, manuals and other documentation on the status, operation and maintenance of software
· Design, develop, and unit test applications in accordance with established standards
· Lead peer-review sessions on solution designs and related codes
· Coordinate, version tracking, packaging application software and support releases of final product
· Work with teammates in the migration of legacy applications to current technologies
· Lead, develop, and refine integration between applications
· Analyze and resolve technical and application problems
· Lead the effort of assessing opportunities for application and process improvement and prepare documentation of rationale to share with team and senior management
· Lead the effort of adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions on-time and on-budget
· Develop high level and low level task list of projects to be developed or upgraded
· Setup team members, and interview new junior developers for the different tasks
· Research and evaluate a variety of eHealth application software products
· Complete performance reports regularly
· Carry out other tasks as required
Qualification and experience
. At least 10 years of experience in software and systems design
· Strong experience in software systems architecture and design
· Strong experience in software development of desktop and web-based systems including development experience in .NET C#, ASP.net, Java, Java-script, HTML5, Angular.js, CSS, Bootstrap
· Strong experience in database design and development
· Strong experience in writing optimized SQL queries (multiple select statements, using temporary tables, several inner joins, etc.), stored procedures, functions, triggers
· Experience in both relational and non-relational databases
· Strong supervisory, team leadership and mentoring skills
· Strong experience using Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) including Visual Studio, Eclipse, Net beans etc.
· Experience working within a large team using source code control tools (TFS, Github, etc.)
· Experience in managing large projects with proven track record of delivering products
· Ability to work with customers/benefiters/domain specialists to define and execute on functional requirements
· Experience working in health-related software
· Strong oral and written skills in English and Amharic
